If you are anything like me, Wednesdays can be a little rough for you. But no fear! I am here with a positive Ted Talk to make you smile and inspire a better work day!
Okay, you’re a teacher so you’re probably on summer break right now, so your Wednesday may be a little less stressful at the moment. But like most teachers you are probably already thinking about the upcoming school year, so this applies to you just the same.
This awesome Ted Talk by Shawn Achor called “The happy secret to better work” really struck me this morning. Achor discusses how to be better at work and it’s not by working longer hours or competing with your colleagues. Instead, it’s about being positive! MIND BLOWN!
Achor’s tells us that being better at your job is about being more positive and being present in the moment and then you will see better results in your work. Competition and stress are counter intuitive to great, productive work, yet so many schools thrive on competition model for staff and students. So if you want to be that awesome teacher you know you can be, then positivity and happiness will help you get there. Awesome, right?
I encourage you to listen to the whole talk, but here are a few or my favorite quotes from the talk below if you don’t have time. Have a a great Wednesday!
“We’re finding it’s not necessarily the reality that shapes us, but the lens through which your brain views the world that shapes your reality. And if we can change the lens, not only can we change your happiness, we can change every single educational and business outcome at the same time.”
“Your brain at positive is 31% more productive than your brain at negative, neutral or stressed.”
“Which means we can reverse the formula. If we can find a way of becoming positive in the present, then our brains work even more successfully as we’re able to work harder, faster and more intelligently.”
